I love what friend of mine, Laura Pierson, wrote about the the email announcement for my show at Elizabeth Harris. Here is what she wrote.

Demonic pastels!

How are you doing this with such GIRL colors?!  The faded flag is warm and soft and luminous, then the implied violence of the broken plate shards, colorless, then big slackmouth demon - horror in a palette of baby showers and 1962 Sears French Provincal Canopy beds.

Love this gawp mouth,  the insipid pink color on monster lips.  Two fucking teeth left, but slanting back for ripping.  Horrifying,  but he's horrified too.  There is the vile grey drip - he's been humiliated.  Ears back like a wet cat, but it is sort of over.  Time has passed - as with the flag.   Its not a ceramic representation of a living demon, he's the thing embalmed.  See the deathless pale pupil, where the light should shine out, there is a flat dot of powder room blue, an implausible eye, only a placeholder or signifier - blindness in the color of a girl's first eyeshadow.  Oh your eyes, you won't be needing these.  Just indicate, with the topical application of a patch of color.   This is our happy family.  Our proud nation.

Jim made a video of me as Artist of the Day at the Delaware County Fair on Monday. Here 'tis.

Monday, August 9, 2010

I'll be  at the Delaware County Fair in Walton, NY on Monday, August 16th.  For most of the day I'll be in the Art Building which is between the 4H building and the Grange Building (where jams and vegetables are judged) which is just past the taxidermy cabins.

If you're around, stop by and say "hi".  I'll be there sewing on some new flags.

Jim will be stopping by with his video camera. Stay tuned.
